Riley Weeden, Graduate Associate
Supervised by Lauren Masciarelli, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S
Riley Weeden specializes in marriage and family counseling. She is passionate about working with children, young adults, and families. In therapy, individuals and families can grow their connections to others, build authenticity, and facilitate positive change in their lives. Riley believes in the power of human connection and building genuine relationships to the self and others. Living in our own authenticity and vulnerability can allow us to be fully seen and heard, both inside and outside of the therapy room. She seeks to provide a counseling space full of nourishing acceptance, safety, and genuineness for clients to face and reflect on their most vulnerable human experiences.
Riley is dedicated to experiential, person-centered, and holistic therapeutic approaches. She works to establish a secure and encouraging space where clients can confront their feelings, overcome obstacles in life, and recover their inner strength. She relies on her warmth, curiosity, and openness to effectively work with clients. Therapy can be a highly challenging and hard process, and Riley is committed to sitting with clients in their most painful and vulnerable moments.
A native Texan from Fort Worth, Riley moved to San Diego to pursue her undergraduate degree in Behavioral Neuroscience. While completing this degree, she delved into the intricacies of human behavior, psychology, and neuroscience. With hands-on experience in behavioral health work during her college years, Riley developed a profound understanding of the unique needs of families and children, especially children on the autism spectrum.
Riley is a graduate student in the Masters of Arts in Counseling program at St. Edward’s University. Riley continues to grow in her passion for mental health counseling and for a systemic and relational lens of therapy and healing.
When she is not at Austin Family Institute or completing her St. Edward’s classes, Riley enjoys yoga, cooking, long walks, reading, and spending quality time with friends and family.
