Katherine Hodges, MA, LMFT Associate
Postgraduate Associate
Supervised by Lauren Masciarelli MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S
Katherine earned her Master of Arts in Counseling at St. Edward’s University with a concentration in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling. She is especially passionate about helping people communicate more meaningfully with family, friends and community. Katherine grounds her practice in a systemic lens, helping clients investigate the unspoken “rules” that govern the many systems they are part of, both inside their own minds and in the greater world. These silent assumptions are often serving to maintain the problematic issues or behaviors that bring people into therapy. Katherine works alongside individuals, couples and families to uncover these underlying rationales, which helps empower clients to achieve dynamic change that is deep, lasting, and meaningful to them.
Katherine moved to Austin in 2004 to pursue her first master’s degree in health education from the University of Texas, and to start married life with her spouse of over 20 years, whom she met while studying biochemistry at Rice University. Along the route to becoming a counselor, she worked as a biochemistry researcher, professional modern dance choreographer, and health-educator. She is a parent to two children, including a recent high school graduate, and a proud pet mom to two rather shy pandemic-adopted cats, and one very sweet labrador retriever.
Katherine’s life experience greatly impacts the way she shows up in the counseling room. She likes to integrate creative and expressive interventions with more structured problem solving approaches. She believes that the work of counseling is a highly collaborative process, similar in some ways to creating a work of art together, and it calls for an individualized approach, tailored to each unique client and the strengths they bring.
